Birthstone Jewelry Makes a Great Gift

What is birthstone jewelry? Each month of the year has a specific gemstone associated with it that is considered the "birthstone" for that month. Your birthstone is the gemstone that the month you are born is assigned to.

Since the custom of wearing birthstone jewelry began, it has been thought to provide the wearer with luck and other virtues specific to their month of birth. It also was rumored to provide the wearer with protection from evil forces. In modern times,birthstone jewelry makes a perfect gift for any occasion - Holidays, Birthdays, Anniversaries and any other time you need a thoughtful, yet cost effective gift.

Birthstone jewelry is not hard to find at any department store, or online. Due to its popularity, merchants usually have a decent selection of birthstone rings, pedants, earrings and other birthstone jewelry. You can often find coupons and discounts on birthstone jewelry, especially around the Holidays, Valentines Day, and Mothers Day when it is a popular gift item.

Here is a handy list of months and their birthstones:
January - Garnet
February - Amethyst
March - Aquamarine, Bloodstone
April - White Topaz
May - Emerald
June - Pearl, Moonstone
July - Ruby
August - Peridot
September - Sapphire
October - Opal, Tourmaline
November - Yellow Topaz, Citrine
December - Turquoise, Blue Topaz

Birthstone jewelry makes a great gift for young girls.  There is inexpensive quality costume birthstone jewelry that is made specifically for 5 - 12 yr old girls. Kids will find it neat that they are wearing "their" birthstone, not to mention that they will enjoy dressing up in their jewelry just like mom.

Speaking of Mom, birthstone jewelry makes an excellent gift for women as well.  There are many varieties of gold, silver and platinum birthstone jewelry. Some of them can be pricey, but are often coupled with diamonds and/or other precious stones. Your recipient will be touched at the personal thought that went into their gift. Or, as a twist, you can even find custom jewelry that has several birthstones, one for each child or grandchild.

Armor, Ammo, and the Kitchen Sink: The Secret to Deployment Bags and how to pack them

"Survival of the fittest" is a term that is thrown around liberally, but what does it mean? The meat of the phrase means that those who are most prepared, equipped and alert will be the ones that will come out on top of the pack.  Going into a battle situation, it is to your benefit to give yourself every advantage you can think of which means to more than satisfy the criteria of the definition of being "fit."

The secret to being prepared and equipped is having with you everything you may need in any given situation. This can be challenging when you have to carry all of your gear. However, with the right TA-50 or deployment bag, you can have enough room for everything you need, and if you pack carefully, perhaps even a small kitchen sink!  The perfect deployment bag begins with essentials in an orderly arrangement.  Essentials will be different for everyone, but at the core should be your body armor, some ammunition and a small first-aid kit. Here are some tips for packing the perfect bag:

1. Combinations are KEY! Try combining articles such as putting gloves, a pair of socks and a couple extra rounds in the cavity of the body armor.  This will enable there to be more room in the bag as well as keeping things that you will need to use together also packed together so there is no time or energy lost in grabbing something you need.  Body armor is bulky and odd shaped for packing, and chances are that if you need one piece, that you will need the same things each time so put them together in a way that they all work together. For example, if you have an extra pair of shoes to pack, consider putting something else that you will be using at that same time in the shoe to save room in your bag.

2. Zip tight bags are awesome!  Water leakage inward to your bag (if it’s not waterproof or if it gets a hole in it somehow) or liquid/gel leakage outward of a container can prove to be a huge problem if you are traveling or on deployment. Zip tight baggies can save your day! Put shirts or outfits, socks, underwear into gallon size baggies if you are going to be deployed to a wet area with a lot of rain or will be trekking through water. If not, zip tight sandwich baggies around your toiletry items individually can prove extremely helpful. If one thing spills then it doesn’t get on each item turning it into a gooey mess. Also, with the use of zip bags, you will know that socks are always in one bag, underwear is always in another bag, and so on alleviating wasted time spent rearranging or hunting down items that you need NOW. Time spent hunting should be for your adversary instead of for your socks.

3. You can pack your kitchen sink and your bathroom medicine cabinet. Just because you are deployed or traveling does not mean that you have to go without necessities due to lack of space anymore. There are some deployment bags out there that are so ultra-roomy and sturdy that you can pack what you need; one of which is a safety/medical kit. Keep a few bandages, muscle pain patches, minor pain meds in travel packages, snap-light fishing glow sticks, all in one mini-tool, and snap-released hand warmers. Maybe put those in a round of duct tape or a funnel and put that in a zip baggy or just in a little toiletry case.

4. Why leave strategy to the battlefield?  To win the war on clutter and mess, you have to plan a method of attack. Strategize and think about putting together your bag right the first time. What will be easiest for you and save you time? What will be something that you will actually do and maintain? Will zip baggies be something that you can do? Will arranging socks with socks work better for you rather than arranging whole outfits together? Does it make sense to pilfer through your bag each time you need something? Plan what you are going to do and then keep it up so you know exactly where everything is! Arrange things considering shape and frequency of use. Does it make sense to put something you use three times daily on the bottom of the stack? Arranging in slices instead of stacks helps. Think bread slices in a bag. That way you don’t have stacks of stuff to look under but rather can see a small sliver sample of each thing you have. Planning your bag will make your time more efficient and lower your stress level because you are more prepared in a shorter amount of time.

Incorporating a few of these ideas or using them as a holistic system really can aide you in being more prepared, more equipped and more "fit" than your counterparts or competition. Saving time, energy and mental stress will aide you in keeping your performance at an optimum while still not compromising your personal comfort. Performance levels at their optimum will ensure you are among the most "fit" and will help to guarantee your success at your mission, both on the battlefield and beyond.

A Quick Guide to Sunglass Wear-Why, When and Where

Sunglasses have been considered a fashion statement for decades, worn by celebrities and other famous folks in either a desperate attempt to conceal their identity or to play the movie star role, all while looking fabulous.  Even though this usage still exists, more and more average people are realizing the importance of wearing them to protect their invaluable eyesight.

Even though the sun is over 93 million miles away, its harmful rays can be the sole cause of an assortment of health problems.  Ultra violet radiation (also known as UV radiation or UV rays) is probably the largest solar-based contributor to such health problems. UV-A, UV-B and UV-C are the categories of UV radiation known to us at this time.  With the exception of UV-C (which is believed to be absorbed by the ozone layer around the earth), these rays can have both short and long term effects to your eyes and your vision.

Now that you’re a bit more aware of why, you need to know more about when.  For instance, UV rays reflect off of snow, sand, pavement and water, causing a greater risk for damage than in a “greener” environment, like a park or field.  The rays in a reflective situation will be coming at you from two angles instead of the one in a greener environment, as the rays will bounce off of the reflective surface in addition to coming at you straight on. Wearing sunglasses that offer you UV protection will help to protect your eyes when in this type of circumstance.

High altitude is another situation for which sunglasses should be worn. UV rays are filtered out through the earth’s atmosphere, resulting in lesser amounts of the harmful rays converging with the earth’s surface.  Simply put, high altitudes yield a greater amount of the rays because they haven’t had the chance to be filtered yet.

Between the hours of 10 am and 4 pm is the time of day when the UV rays are their most powerful, so protective eyewear is crucial during this timeframe, whether or not the sun is bright and beaming in the sky or hidden behind large amounts of clouds (both white and fluffy and dark and  gloomy).  UV rays can easily leak through the cloud cover and rain to wreak its irreversible damage on your eyes.

Since you now are aware of the situations that necessitate proper eyewear protection, you need a brief list of what to look for when shopping for your ideal pair of sunglasses.  Typically, lenses that are green, brown or grey work the best, combined with a feature that filters out of at least 99% of UV-A and UV-B radiation and 75% - 90% of visible light. Taking care of your baby blues, browns and greens now will ensure you a lifetime of beautiful visions.

A Promise Should Be Forever: Titanium Promise Rings

While a promise ring can be given for a variety of reasons, they are typically given as a sign that the giver and the wearer will date each other exclusively and that an engagement may come soon.  Promise rings are usually less expensive than engagement or wedding rings.  Titanium promise rings are a good idea for several reasons.  They are less expensive than silver or gold rings, are strong and durable, and can be engraved with special messages.

Since promise rings are less formal than wedding and engagement rings, they are usually less expensive.  Titanium promise rings are more reasonably priced than promise rings made of a precious metal like gold or silver.  Some people do choose to buy more expensive promise rings that include gem settings.  Titanium rings are known for being a good choice for setting a stone.

The strength and durability of titanium promise rings serves several purposes.  Obviously, it is a wise idea to buy a ring that will retain its shape and not be scratched or broken.  Aside from that, the strength of titanium promise rings signifies the commitment to keeping the promise.  A strong promise ring drives home the point that the giver and the wearer are committed to each other.  What better way to show devotion and long-term intent than to give a ring that will last a lifetime?

Most sellers will engrave titanium engagement rings with messages of the buyer’s choosing.  A customer can have his and his girlfriend’s names etched onto the ring to add sentimental value.  The ring could also be engraved with a brief description of the promise being made, or a pattern such interlocking hearts that can drive the point home.

Titanium promise rings are a good value and can have symbolic and sentimental meaning.  Their strength and durability makes the promise being made that much more meaningful.

25 Top Gas Grills Compared

All too often consumers seeking a high end stainless steel gas grill are won over by a manufacturer's reputation, the look of the grill or other factors such as recommendations from friends or family.  Now, this is a fairly large investment, as appliances go, and consulting an expert in the field could help in making an informed decision.  A reliable gas grill specialist can help you evaluate the various features found in these high end grills and quide you to the best choice for the features you prefer.

The simplest way to compare the manufacturers objectively, of course, is with a chart!  Our chart compares Fire Magic, Alfresco, Kenmore Elite, Viking, DCS, Dacor, Lynx, Vintage, Weber Summit Gold D, Wolf, Altima, Turbo, ProFire, Phoenix, Tec, Solaire Infrared, Vieluxe, Lazy Man, Jenn Air, Holland, FrontGate, Capitol, Crown Verity, Ducane and Dynasty.

Some of the features on the chart are:

<b>*BTU Output:</b>  How many burners, and how many BTUs are standard?
You'll need to do some math to determine the actual heat your food will receive. Ideally, you want to have over 95 BTU's per square inch of cooking surface. How will you know? Take your total BTU's and divide it by the primary cooking surface. So.... if your cooking surface is 660 square inches and the total BTU's are 104,000 then 104,000 BTU's divided by 660 square inches = 157 BTU's per square inch. That would be a winner!!!

<b>*Temperature Range:</b>  This is a very important characteristic if you like to do a variety of cooking.  You'll be able to do everything from searing steaks to baking pizza with a
large temperature range.

<b>*Burner material</b> can consist of cast stainless steel, stainless steel sheet metal, cast iron, infra-red and even cast brass, which is used in commercial settings.  Dual burners allow for indirect cooking and better heat control. Cast brass or cast stainless burners are your best bet. They will last longer and are more durable. Grease tends to burn through sheet metal easily.

<b>*Infra-Red Burners</b> are an option for those who demand a well seared steak.  Thinking of an infra-red cooking system? Temperatures on an infra-red cooking system can reach up to 1600 degrees on some grills. Infra-red cooking allows for quick, high temperatures, which cuts cooking time and helps seal in juices -- perfect for searing a steak. If blackened food or steaks are your taste preference – infra-red cooking is the way to go. If you plan on conventional cooking -- go with a hybrid that offers infra-red and standard burners. Tip – make sure you can convert infra-red burners back to standard for large parties.

<b>*Rotisserie backburners</b> are a popular option. Used to cook large pieces of meat evenly, rotisseries use a lot less heat than normal grilling. BTU ranges generally range in the 13-15,000 category but the best grills offer 18-28,000 BTUs.  Meats cooked using a rotisserie are generally juicier, self-basted and slow roasted.  Tip - look for a model with a drip tray to make cleanup easier.  Be sure to compare available rotisserie space, especially if you want to roast a turkey or two.

<b>*A Triple Gourmet Grill</b> allows you to use gas, infra-red AND charcoal cooking!  How versatile can you get!!

<b>*An adjustable smoker box</b> is perfect for those who enjoy the added flavor of hickory, mesquite or other wood to your meats.  It makes smoking easy.  Adjustable vents allow you to control the amount of smoke flavor to provide just the right taste.

<b>*Warranty</b> is one of the most important features to consider.  Only the best grills offer a warranty against a condition called burn through which affects the burners.

*Does the grill you are considering offer a <b>countertop model</b>?  These types of gas grills can be dropped into an outdoor kitchen which can be customized with your choice of tile, stucco or other solid surfaces, doors, drawers and other accessories like refrigerators or sinks.

<b>*Cooking Grids:</b> Stainless steel cooking surfaces won't rust or chip. Porcelain cooking surfaces tend to chip and could flake off into food. No N.S.F. (National Sanitation Federation) affiliates use porcelain cooking grids.

<b>*Cooking Grid Size:</b>  How many people do you regularly feed?  The size of your crowd will determine how big your grill should be.  Tip – make sure you can convert infra-red burners back to standard for large parties.

<b>*Inner Liner:</b>  This accessory radiates heat more evenly to grill, directs dripping to tray and separates the valve and manifold from combustion chamber.  This will prolong the life of your burners and reduce the chances of a grease fire.  The grill hood covers the cooking surface and assists in trapping the heated air inside. Look for a double insulated wall hood. If you're buying a stainless steel model, with a double insulated wall hood, it won't turn a brown or blue hue. It will keep it's shine.

<b>*Stainless Steel Flavor Grids:</b>  This heat distribution system should be stainless steel for long life and durability.  Flavor grids reflect all the heat up toward the grilling surface
and vaporizes drippings. You can add wood chips and other flavor enhancers to your flavor grids to add some zest to your choice of meat.

<b>*Fuel Conversion:</b>  Will your grill easily convert from natural gas to propane if you want to move it from the back yard to the street for a block party?

<b>*Side burners</b> provide versatility giving you separate controls for each burner. Side burners offer you additional cooking options and come with single or double burners.  You
can fry up some french fries or treat the team to sweet corn. The BTUs range from 12-17,000, but be sure to look for cast brass or cast stainless burners.

<b>More Great Options:</b>

<b>*A power/wok burner</b> will give you even more cooking diversity. Saute onions or boil lobsters! Brown butter or deep fry a turkey!  Having a party? A power burner can
accommodate a 26" wok!  With a range of 3,000 - 60,000 Btu's, the power burner is a definite advantage for any cook!

<b>*A full sear plate or briquette tray</b> (which can also be filled with lava rocks or wood chips) under the cooking surface protects burners and allows for drippings to smolder which gives foods more flavor. Look for a model that will quickly flash the drippings eliminating flare-ups.

<b>*Adding a warming rack</b> will keep food warm and away from direct heat and also give you extra cooking space.

<b>*Add a griddle</b> to your side burner and enjoy breakfast alfresco!

Armed with this information, you should be able to define your needs and choose a grill that will give you many years of great food and good times.  Enjoy!

Cuckoo Clocks: Tracing The History

The craft of clock making is said to have started in Black Forest, Germany. The abundance of both time and woods have fashioned the idea of creating clocks, which was followed after an imported clock from a nearby area.

The first clocks that were produced in this region were rather primitive but are great alternatives for the sundials hourglasses that were ordinarily use during those times. Wooden toothed wheels were the first parts and the weights are normally made of stones. The pendulum was created from the wood named as Waag that runs back and forth on top of the dial to keep the cuckoo clock in time.

In due time, the inhabitants of the Black Forest became artisans in their own fields. Some specialized in wood carving, others on clock making. Still others became clock painters while some make the toothed wheels and the chains.

And from this peaceful countryside of Black Forest town of Schönwald, Germany did the cuckoo clocks originated. Later, cuckoo clocks have gain worldwide popularity due to their uniqueness. What was originally the Dutch clock was reinvented to capture a nature's sound-the cuckoo's call. Franz Ketterer outlined the system of a clock that imitates the whistles and billows of the cuckoos. Refinements on the original design of the cuckoo clocks had led to the familiar set of a chalet or a birdhouse.

Since 1738, the production of the cuckoo clocks is still centralized at the Black Forest area in Germany, specifically in Neustadt and Triberg. However, cuckoo clocks are often thought of having its origin from Switzerland.

This confusion may have been due to the fact that there are other versions of the cuckoo clocks from neighboring regions, which had been around for quite some time even before the making of the cuckoo clocks. One good example is the rooster clock.

A cuckoo clock typically has a pendulum built into it. Conceptualized after the striking of a gong, the cuckoo clocks are characterized by whistles and billows that are imitated after the calls of the cuckoo birds. The designs of ordinary cuckoo clocks are often conventional with birds popping up from the openings and rustic designs all over with occasional nature designs like animals and leaves. Cuckoo clocks are hanged on the walls and are frequently enclosed in wooden boxes.

As the clock strikes, the bird that is hidden within the cuckoo clock appears through the trap door and vanishes immediately after the striking is done.

The typical cuckoo clocks have birds that move everytime the clock strikes. This is done through an arm that is being lifted from behind the carving. Most cuckoo clocks are programmed to play musical tunes from a musical box before the hour strikes. This type of cuckoo clocks has other automata that creates the musical tunes. Most clocks are driven by weight, they are seldom made with spring drives.

With modernity comes the change in the cuckoo clocks. There had been created clocks that imitate the billows and whistles of the cuckoos, only electronically. Mostly of these are fake quartz that runs through battery.

With the clocks' fame, many of them have moved their ways into the homes worldwide. Many are still fashioned after the traditional cuckoo clocks but many were created with the touch of modernity. A display of these clocks is a genuine mark of Germany.

Commercial Possibilities That Make Sense

If you have ever worked yourself up to checking out a possible business opportunity you saw announced either through the post, on the web, or in the paper, you also found that it does not take long before everyone under the sun has your name, address, and additional personal information so that they can send you their business information as well. Before you know it, your postbox is flooded with business opportunities that all make the affirmation that you can make tons of money effortlessly whilst you sleep and of course you dont have to put in any energy at all for any of this to materialize. In fact, you can purchase a turnkey business opportunity and simply sit back and collect the earnings, correct? Of course we all know that theres a snag to these and that more than a few of us have even had such a yearning to find out what the hitch was that we took chances with our $39.99 to find out. And because we did, we now get more business information filling our postbox than we ever envisaged was out there.

What these business opportunity solicitations do for us, besides aggravating us, is make us wonder if there really is something different out there we could be doing with our day. Perhaps there is something that can assist us with our fiscal concerns or something we could possibly find more satisfying and even fun that would more than ante up for the bills. We might well even start to imagine that maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel and maybe our kids do not have to recollect us as the shadow that left before break of day and crept into their rooms after they were slumbering to kiss them good night. All these annoying commercial information assemblages have set us into a world of want. Deep down we yearn to be self-employed. We become enraged because everything out there is such a fraud and we can even learn to distinguish them from their introductory line in the mail.

But what if there existed a place that offered professional information that was based on actual business opportunities? What if you could find business opportunities that made sense? What if there were real selections for genuine businesses and with a little bit of energy, time, and money we could take all those wants that these business information messages created in us and actually put them to really good use?

Commercial information is more than just a couple of lines that try to convince you to head off volitionally to a website, enter all your identifying details to ensure that somebody else can irritate you in the future, and then pound you with emotive chords that makes you want to leave your job and stay at home and scoop in the cash. This is not commercial information. This is called marketing, and you turn into the target audience. Real commercial information will present itself with some actual information. Of course, you will never get all the finer details out of them without at least offering them something, like your first name and a contact address, but instead of offering this personal information to someone who is willing to assure you unimaginable riches (but hush its a secret!) they actually tell you what it is you are looking at. Instead of informing you that they are offering you a turnkey business opportunity and then pounding you with dreams of spare time and money, and kids who know you, they actually state something real like dry cleaning business, or consulting business.  Sure, these things might take more than the $39.99 you toss away each time you allow your emotional chords to be pulled, but at least these businesses are giving you the genuine deal up front without soaking your bank accounts first.

The sad truth is that the largest target audience for commercial information that requires large capital infusion before the information is released, are families that cant really afford to be shelling out $40 or fifty dollars once a week to another sharlaton with empty promises. But the desire to find a business that actually works is so strong, that many people will continue to spend money that they dont have for their next parcel of business information.

Its time to alter the way we associate business opportunities with the rest of the globe. Instead of ponying up lots of money to learn about some incredible secret that you could have come up with on your own, how about casting our attention to places where the business opportunities are genuine, honest, and will even tell you what they are about, without asking you to put your hand in your pocket for it first? Radical in this day and age, maybe, but a relief to the countless people who are earnestly seeking out business opportunities that are sound, genuine, and simply, just make sense.

Can openers – a brief history lesson

Many people tend to assume that cans and can openers were invented around the same time, as it is now considered essential to have a can opener in order to open a can. This is not, in fact, the case: cans were invented in the early 19th century, in order to store food for the navy, while can openers weren’t invented until a man named Ezra Warner came up with the idea half a decade later. In the meantime, people had to come up with creative ways to open the cans, often using sharp knives, or a hammer and chisel.

The can opener we all know and love today dates back to 1925, although it was only a minor modification to the original 1870 design, adding a jagged edge to the cutting wheel. It is a testament to their utility that the only change since has been the introduction of electric can openers, but electric can openers are still by no means ubiquitous, and it is rare to find a kitchen that doesn’t possess a can opener in the classic design

Even though pull-to-open cans were invented 50 years ago, people still open millions of cans every day using can openers, as cans are much cheaper to manufacture when they don’t include a ringpull. There is also a certain nostalgia value in opening a can with a can opener if you haven’t done it for a while – although it can also be a little dangerous if you cut yourself on the sharp metal edge of the can’s top.

However, the classic wheel design is not the only kind of can opener around. Another one that is very common is the P-38 pocket can opener, used in the army and often given out with food aid in the developing world. It is much cheaper to make than a normal can opener, as it uses much less metal, consisting only of a metal blade with a ‘hook’. For the experienced, it can even be much faster to use than a normal can opener, and it is certainly easier to carry and store.

Citas a Ciegas

Choosing A Printer For Your Home Office Use

Are you looking for a printer for your home office use? It is a rather daunting task especially since you are surrounded by so many choices that can really make it difficult to select the best home office printer from the shelf. And researching over the internet just doesn't help much because every website worth its salt, talks about "best printer ever is..." just adding to the confusion!

If you are like me, then the biggest obstacle you will face is just not being sure where to begin your search. Gosh! There are just too many types of printers and brands to choose from….being spoilt for choice just does not help here.

Let us cut to the chase and start at the very beginning. By now you must be really wondering, "How many types of printers are there?". The last time I counted, there were three basic types and I am sure that number is still constant. These three types are laser, inkjet, and dot matrix. We are going to look at each of these type individually and then share the pros and cons of each type of home office printer with you so that you are clear on whether it fits with your business/home requirements or not.

Dot Matrix
It's the oldest type of printer currently in the market. Similar to a typewriter in function, they print using an inked ribbon that is impressed upon by a printhead to generate the print on the paper. Dot matrix printers were considered pioneers at the time of introduction. However, now their technology is redundant, because better performing printers have been introduced since then.

That being said, it's also a common sight to still find many companies using these printers. Why, did you ask? Because dot matrix printers are the only printers capable of producing carbon copies, making it easy for banks and payroll departments of companies to tolerate these noisy beasts!

If you also require a printer for this specific need, dot matrix printer will do the job well. Here’s what you need to consider:

Dot Matrix Printer's Pros
* Can easily print on multipart forms (read carbon copy)
* Very economical

Dot Matrix Printer's Cons
* Very noisy
* Poor quality output

Inkjet
One of my favorite types of printer, inkjet printer works by ejecting many hundreds of tiny drops of ink on to the paper. Each company has its own technology but the common this is the result - noiseless, crisp printing at low costs.

The cartridges used in these printers cost a fortune. But that's how printer companies make their money. They keep the cost of the printer low but make the cartridges expensive. And did you know that it is cheaper to fill a pool with vintage champagne than with printer ink?

The resolution or the quality of print offered by inkjet printers is measured in DPI or (dots per inch). The higher the DPI, the better the print quality. You can also choose from colored printers to photorealistic models. If you are require the printer for printing high quality graphic work or want to print family pictures, a photo inkjet printer can be avoided.

An inkjet printer can be yours for around $85 to $200. Don’t aim for the really cheap ones because you’ll be disappointed by the performance. Check some inkjet printers here. Remember; as far as printers go, you'll get what you pay for.

Inkjet Printer's Pros
* Quiet operation
* High quality print outs

Inkjet Printer's Cons
* Ink tends to smudge
* Cartridges are very expensive to replace

Laser
A high-end printer technology, laser printers have been available for some time now. Though complex in printing technology, laser printers give you great quality prints. Each paper that passes through the printer is given a negative charge while the toner is positively charged. These opposite charges attract toner to the paper where it is heated to make it hold onto the paper.

The laser's functionality is limited to "drawing" out which parts of the page should be positive or negative in charge.

A great print quality and excellent, quite functioning, laser printers are the most expensive of all printer types and the cost of their spares can be jaw dropping! If you want to know the cost of running the printer, simply ask the salesperson for this information for the first 12 months. DON'T buy a laser printer without knowing what the first year’s cost is going to be.

Laser Printer's Pros
* Extremely fast
* Impressive black and color print quality

Laser Printer's Cons
* High running costs
* Expensive Repairs

So finally that one question that is still left unanswered. "What is the best home office printer?". This really depends on your need and your budget. According to common knowledge, a mid-range inkjet printer from HP, Lexmark, Epson, or Canon would sever your SOHO needs well. And remember; stick with printer manufacturers that you recognize.

Checklist Before Starting a Home Based Business

When you are looking for a home business opportunity, it is important to make sure that you are aware of all that you will be required to bring to the equation. This can help save you a lot of confusion and money by avoiding opportunities that require too much from you to get started. Here is a checklist of thing that you should consider before selecting a home business opportunity.

1. Do you need to get a license to run the business? Many states require that businesses get a license before they are allowed to open. This includes home businesses in many locations. Check with your local government agencies to see what you will need to have in place to start your own home business.

2. Do you need a zoning permit? If you have a home business opportunity that requires doing actual business with the public, you are going to need to make sure that you will not be in violation of any zoning laws. Most cities have very strict residential zoning requirements and it is not hard to violate them. Make sure that the type of business you want to start will be acceptable to run at your current location.

3. How much equipment will you need to buy? You’ll need to know exactly how much money you’re going to have to spend to get your business operational. While some home business opportunities require just a computer, others may need a special printer, extra software, additional gadgets or even heavy equipment. This can add up in a short period of time. Make sure that you are aware of all the expenses that you will incur before you start up.

4. Do you have enough space in your home to devote to your business? Running an informational company is one thing, but if you are going to be stocking products in your home, you’re going to need enough space. For tax purposes, you’re also going to have to have a room that is completely devoted to your home business. This means no kid’s toys, or anything from your normal family life can intrude on this room. If you don’t have this kind of space you may need to add on to your home to accommodate your business.

5. Will you need to purchase any insurance? If you are doing business with the public at your home, you will need to get liability insurance. This will help protect you if anyone falls on your property or injures themselves in anyway. If you will be storing products, you will need to have them insured in case there is a flood or they get damaged in any way.

Lastly, you may want to consider business protection insurance that will help you in the event of any copyright infringement claims or other common complaints. Don’t forget your own health insurance, or any insurance that you may need to provide for employees. This can add up quickly and increase your overall start up costs.

Candle Wholesalers

Candles have never been so popular. Candles are now a must, whatever may be the occasion. You have aromatic candles, candles made up of beeswax, and paraffin. The candle industry is witnessing an unprecedented boom, thanks to the candle wholesalers for playing a large part of this phenomenal growth.

As in the case with other wholesalers, candle wholesalers purchase these candles in bulk quantities from manufacturers at a mark-up price. The wholesaler then sells these candles, keeping a percentage, to the retailer, who in turn sells these candles ultimately to the consumer.

This chain or distribution channel regulates the market prices and determines the end price of any product. Candles are no different. Dinner candles, church candles, scented candles, you name it and leading wholesalers always maintain large inventories of these products. Needless to say, they have even larger inventories of particular types of candles, which have greater demand, aromatic candles for instance. If you are a candle retailer, looking forward to getting fabulous discounts from wholesalers, you have every chance of getting one. Just visit the online resources of leading candle wholesalers and find out what they are offering. You can get the entire information on the kind of candles they have to offer and importantly at what price do they offer. Once you establish a connection with one of these leading wholesalers, your job becomes easy. In the bargain, many a wholesaler might pass on these discounts to you, the retailer.

A single wholesaler may have all types of candles. Sometimes certain wholesalers have only one type or brand of candles. They are also responsible for the local promotion of the brand to a large extent. Candle wholesalers have good working relationships with both manufacturers and retailers. It always helps them to maintain a certain stronghold on the business.

Can You Learn Photoshop basics in 2 Hours or will the red eye removal be your tears flowing?

Honesty in advertising.  Wouldn’t it be a consumers dream to approach products with caution and not skepticism?

David Peters writes openly about his frustration the first time he opened Photoshop’s software and felt lost and dejected.  The source of his dilemma was even wanted to know the basics seemed out of reach without a tutor sitting next to you.  Hence the idea is born for “Learn Photoshop Now.”

After getting comfortable with the product he took action.  He designed a system to show the most common tasks a Photoshop user would seek direction.  On the product page he even gives video demonstrations on how these can be accomplished.

He illustrates for us how to remove red eye from digital photos, when resizing a picture how can the user avoid quality loss, and how graphics could benefit the final presentation.  Click here for risk free information

As he gets into the nuts and bolts of the presentation such as learning the toolbox, or what is the Palette Well we are able to comprehend the training because the video brings it all to life and clarifies the blur often caused by text based learning.  It is a hands on system for the consumer.  If you have ever been distraught learning software by a manual, you can’t help but have fun as you encompass each step up the ladder.

David Peters shows us some of the tricks of the trade.  The merging of photos so they look as one for example.  It seems he anticipates our questions.  Did you ever wonder if they could remove a blemish for an actresses photo or whiten the teeth of a tobacco user?  These come with the software.

Although David Peters mentions about helping out with the “basics”, there is enough knowledge afforded to the user to feel anything like a beginner.

The one on one concept makes learning at your own speed stress free. It isn’t a content or an assignment. You don’t have to go on to the next topic until you have committed the information to memory and or notes.

With a money back guarantee what have you got to lose?  Maybe some red-eye, acne, etc.

Brief Overlook of Some Fun Thomas the Train Toys and Sets

Thomas the Train toys are specially designed to help your children learn while growing up while at the same time keeping them entertained, and this goal has definitely been successful since Thomas and his friends have fascinated children of many generations - more than sixty years! You can find a wide assortment of different Thomas the Train toys and merchandise, but this quick overlook will cover toy trains and train set accessories.

I have been a fan of all the Thomas the Train toys for quite a while, and I thought someone could find a quick summary of the train sets information interesting, so I decided to write this article. I hope you enjoy it.

Manually-powered Thomas the Train toys

The most known Thomas the Train toys distributor is Learning Curve; their wooden sets are just delightful. They are able to operate on the wooden tracks provided by Learning Curve, and also on those similar tracks manufactured by BRIO. These wooden sets are highly recommended for children aged 2 to 5, because at those young ages the children tend to enjoy manually using the trains on the ground or any other surface, so they won't get to fully enjoy more complex, remotely controlled train sets. Learning Curve also introduced the "Take Along" Thomas the Train toys series that was made of metal. In this series, the trains connect with the coaches by using magnets, which is a smart idea. The track is made of plastic, and the only disadvantage I found is that they are not at all compatible with the older wooden tracks.

Other good metal models of Thomas the Train and his friends were those manufactured by ERTL, but unfortunately the company discontinued the series.

Another great series of Thomas the Train toys is the line manufactured by TOMY. The series includes plastic models and tracks, and many kids prefer them over the metal ones mentioned above. This company also launched the "My first Thomas the Train" series of manually powered plastic train sets designed for younger children, with rubber wheels and a good plastic track.

Electrically-powered Thomas the Train toys

Electrically powered train sets are recommended for older kids. Among the manufacturers of the best electrical Thomas the Train toys, you can find big known names like Bachmann and Tomica. Battery or transformer powered Thomas the Train characters and accessories are available, and both of them also made tracks available in several sizes.  They even manufactured some remotely controlled sets too! Other manufacturers of electrically powered trains were Lionel and Hornby.

The electrical sets are not my favorites. In fact, I prefer the old wooden sets, which seem to be more useful for a developing child than other sets.

Of course, your preferences on Thomas the Train toys may not be the same as mine. Feel free to visit your local toy store and ask the salespeople about all the available different Thomas the Train toys. You will surely find a train set that meets your expectations, and will definitely be able to provide your child a highly entertaining experience while helping him or her learn fun things too.

Burners: Up Close and Personal

There's been a bunch of smoke blown about in the grill industry lately about burners and burner materials. One manufacturer says this, and another says that, one sales rep tells you there's not much difference, the next tells you it's the heart and soul of your grill.

So much is said, but little is shown or demonstrated, and it's hard to know just what is the best material for a grill burner. If you pardon our pun here, it's easy to get burned.

In another article, we graphically explained what happens to a sheet metal burner after time and use. We explained how burn-through happens, and what materials are less succeptible.

How do you avoid burn-through? Well, you *could* keep the burner clean. This is a messy and time-consuming process, as you have to get in there with a small, pointed tool and carefully poke each little hole in the burner. *Some* manufacturers actually require this, else you void the warranty.

If this sounds like a lot of work, well, it is. It's a ton of work, and it isn't the cleanest job on the planet.

There's an easier way: know what you are getting into when you look at a particular grill. Obviously, there is no way to know the thickness or quality of a burner - that is, unless you actually cut a few of them in half! Now, no person in their right mind would even think about doing this, right? Think of the expense, the mess...

Well, we did. In fact, We cut open the burners from several of today's favorite high-end grills: Alfresco, DCS, Fire Magic and Lynx. Looking for thicknesses, we also examined how these burners are constructed to see if the orifices are drilled, molded or punched. We looked at other features as well, including nickel content.

(At the time of this article, we were able to review a Star grill, a relative newcomer to the consumer grill market, which has been producing professional cooking equipment for almost 80 years. Their new entries in the consumer market use essentially the identical burner as DCS: a 14-gauge Stainless Steel Sheet Metal burner. The only difference we noted was the burner's feeder tube: the DCS is ramped up to the burner tube, while the Star's feeder tube is level with the burner tube. For this comparison, use the DCS burner as Star's performance. Where there are differences, we will note them.)

Here's what we found:

Fire Magic:

    * .240"
    * 2 guage
    * 4 lbs., 4.6 oz.
    * 13, 125 Btu, used in pairs

Lynx:

    * .240"
    * 2 guage
    * 8 lbs., x.x oz.
    * 25,000 Btu

Alfresco:

    * .035"
    * 20 guage
    * 2 lbs., 2 oz.
    * 27,000 Btu

DCS:

    * .75"
    * 14 guage
    * 3 lbs., 2.24 oz.
    * 25,000 Btu

Burn Through in Stainless Steel Burners

I grill.

I mean, I grill – often. I grill about 3 or 4 days a week, every week of the year, every year. Living 100 yards from Lake Erie, this is no small feat: it gets cold in Cleveland in the winter, and we get our fair share of snow – most of which is lake effect, sometimes measured in feet rather than inches.

I have often found myself outside after dark on a late December evening, in 20-degree weather with an icy wind blowing in off the lake, snow half-way up my shins, basting a roast on the rotisserie.

Naturally, my wife thinks I am nuts. She also thinks I am a great cook, which is neither here nor there. But, I digress…

A couple of months ago, I noticed that the grill was heating unevenly. The left side was noticeably hotter than the right. The flame was higher on the left, and I had more problems with flare-up on that side. Meanwhile, the right side was not cooking very well at all. The grill is a 3-year-old Fiesta that my wife bought at K-Mart shortly before we met. It sports a stainless steel sheet metal burner which is adequate for occasional use. I suspected that the burner was burned through since I use the grill much more than the manufacturer intended; I wanted to replace it much earlier than this, but since we were buying a house, I placed the project on the back burner, so to speak.

The house threw us a couple of major curve balls, the worst of which was a total replacement of our kitchen. At the time, we were waiting on our new counter tops: we did not have a working kitchen; the microwave and the grill were our only working kitchen appliances. Nice time for the grill to fail, huh?

One night during the remodel, I wanted to grill some chicken. I fired up the grill, and noticed that the flame on the left side of the grill reached the cooking grate, and the flame on the right was barely noticeable. Our chicken browned noticeably toward the left side, and barely cooked on the right. The photos on our site show the old burner.

I muddled my way through the meal, deciding to take action. The next day I ordered a new burner/venturi set over the Internet. Since spiders love our new house, I splurged on spider guards. The only tools I needed for the job were a pair of pliers and a screwdriver. I assembled the burner/venturi assembly, connected the ignitor to the burner, and went out to the grill. I disconnected the securing pins for the burner underneath the grill and the old burner lifted out easily. The new burner settled gently into place, and I connected the ignitor and installed the spider screens. I tested the ignitor, and, satisfied that it worked properly, fired up the grill. Even blue flame, about one and a half inches high, with yellow tips. Perfect. Nice, even heat again. Project completed, and in about a half-hour.

So why did this happen? Why did my burner rot from the inside out? The answer is simple physics. When your burner burns gas, the flame outside the burner creates a vacuum inside the burner. An open valve allows gas under high pressure to flow from its source into the burner, where the pressure is lower, and then continue out to the outside to be burned.

So how does this cause burn-through? Remember the flame that is sucking the gas out of the burner? Now shut that gas off. What happens? The gas is still burning. When there is no more fuel, the vacuum inside the burner actually sucks whatever is right outside the burner, resulting in an audible “pop” when the flame goes out.

Here it is in a nutshell: you’ve been cooking food, right? You’ve been using spices, sauces and rubs -- and the food itself has its own juices. These are in the air surrounding the food and the burners, mostly as partially-burned carbon particles. These carbon particles get sucked into the burner when the flame is extinguished. These particles remain in the burner until the next time you fire up the grill. When you fire up the grill, these particles create chaos in the flow of the gas. The pressure of the gas will hold these particles against the sides of the burner. Reaching ignition temperature, they eventually burn through the metal from the inside out. Now you know why I had to replace my burner – and why you’ll have to do the same if you purchase a grill with a sheet metal burner.

My story points out another issue: what type of burner will your new grill have? This is a major decision that many overlook when they purchase a high-end grill. Most grills, even well-known $3,000 to $5,000 units, have the same stainless steel sheet metal burners that I just replaced, and many have a thickness in the 20- to 24-gauge range! Let’s face it: buying a $3,000 grill is like buying a Mercedes or a Lexus; you shouldn’t have to replace the engine in a 3-year-old Lexus!

If you purchase a grill with a stainless steel sheet metal (or cast iron/cast iron composite) burner, you will replace the burners at some point. The more often you grill, the more often you will replace the burner. The more expensive the grill, the more difficult the replacement.

"What?" you say! Stainless steel will rust? Well, yes, it *will* rust. It just takes a lot longer. The idea that stainless steel will neither stain or rust is a myth. The "stainless" in the term "stainless steel" refers to the fact that there are no impurities in the metal itself, and that nickel has been introduced into the alloy to produce a more acceptable finish. A lower grade of stainless steel with a lower nickel content will attract a magnet, also contrary to popular myth.

What, then, is the alternative to a stainless steel sheet metal burner? Cast iron? Well, yes, but many grill manufacturers also use cast brass or cast stainless steel, which will not rust or burn through. Lynx and Fire Magic are two such grills, and they’re even warranted against rust and burn-through. A less-expensive alternative with cast brass burners would be the Coleman 6000, retailing for under $1,000 (photo right).

This is not to disparage stainless steel sheet metal burners: Napoleon uses 16-gauge stainless steel in their burners, much thicker than just about any other brand, and they tend to last longer than other manufacturer’s burners. They are still prone to rot and burn-through, however: it just takes a little longer, that’s all.

So, if you’re shopping for a new grill, check the burner construction first.

Bratz Dolls: Cool Dolls for Cool Girls

As many doll collectors (and little girls, of course) know, 2005 has been the "year of the Bratz." Bratz dolls have replaced Barbie dolls in many countries as the top selling dolls, bringing an end to Barbie’s control of the doll market and giving birth to what may be called "the age of the Bratz dolls."

But what's the main reason behind little girls preferring Bratz dolls over their formidable competition? The answer is simple: coolness. While a lot of moms out there seem to avoid buying Bratz because of their diva looks, the excess of makeup on the dolls' faces, their bad attitude expressions and the "trashy" clothes they wear; these precise features are what make little girls (and not-so-little too) go crazy for Bratz dolls. Let's face it: reality shows us that more and more young women every day tend to adopt the latest fashions and trends, so it is rather logical for a little girl to prefer stylistic Bratz dolls over the more conservative and outdated Barbie dolls.

It seems to me that MGA Entertainment (the creator of Bratz dolls) made the right choice when they started producing these cool fashion dolls back in the summer of 2001 since these chunky, ten-inch vinyl dolls are the number one choice among girls between 8 and 12 years of age.

Maybe the reason for the popularity of the Bratz dolls is the large number of accessories available: from clothing for different seasons to mini-malls, from a sushi restaurant to a cool disco, these Bratz seem to know how to have fun! The different Bratz available include: Bratz Angelz (yes, they are rock stars!), and of course the Angelz tour bus and party plane (every rock star should have one…), the cool Wild West Bratz (I just love those little cowboy hats and the horse), the plain Step Out Bratz dolls, and (my favorites) the Bratz Campfire Girlz. There is also a couple of little Bratz (the Bratz Babiez, Phoebe and Roxxi) to choose from. I specially recommend the Bratz Holiday Doll, a nice lovely doll with a beautiful long evening dress.

There is also a huge number of cool playsets for the Bratz, including the CampFire tent, the limousine, a sushi – karaoke bar, the Bratz shopping mall, the retro cafe, and a vast selection of different places where your Bratz dolls can hang out.

MGA Entertainment has, as has many other doll-producing companies, introduced a line of makeup and many other lifestyle products for girls to complement the "Bratz dolls experience." Maybe the biggest news in this area is the brand new line of Bratz electronics. A portable DVD player, a digital video recorder (yes, a Bratz camcorder!) and a TV/DVD combo are just some of the Bratz dolls electronic products available. Bratz dolls DVD's, a video game and even a movie to be released this year complete the magical Bratz dolls world.

Boxing Gloves

Do an online search of boxing gloves, and you’ll get more results returned than you know what to do with! First of all, you need to determine the purpose of your gloves. Are they for full contact boxing? Martial arts sparring? Training? Bag work? Aerobic kick boxing? Establish which kind of fighting you plan on participating in first. Then look at the various styles, sizes and weights.
First, go to any sporting goods store or eBay and pick up a stock pair of gloves. But will they protect you and will they help you to become a better fighter? Or are they basically worthless? Many fighters will tell you that leather gloves are the best. They may cost a little more (likely), but you will get a quality pair that will provide better support and will last longer. Note: For the purpose of this discussion we will assume you’re not a fitness class or hobbyist boxer.

You truly will get what you pay for. But that’s ok in some cases. If you’re not in the Golden Gloves, or plan on being a contestant on The Contender, then you may not need $400 gloves. But if you spend $15 on a pair, don’t expect to be the next Oscar De la Hoya. If you’re serious about the sport, and aren’t just trying it out to see if you like it, or even just periodically hitting the bag as a hobby, then invest in a good pair of gloves.

The weight of the glove is also important. You will be able to find weights ranging from 10 to 20 ounces. In most professional boxing matches, the fighters usually wear 10 oz gloves. However, for training purposes, most gloves weigh 12 oz, 14 oz, and 16 oz. The heavier the glove, the more protection it offers. For beginners, 14 oz and 16 oz gloves are recommended. For sparring purposes, 16 oz boxing gloves are standard.

Get the right size. Most gloves are sized small, medium and large sizes. On average, men will wear large, women will wear medium and youth will wear small. Of course this will vary if one has exceptionally large or small mitts. Some manufacturers also vary slightly, but for the most part the sizing is fairly standardized.

Another factor to consider is the closure on the glove; do you prefer Velcro or laces? The classic style boxing gloves that you always see in prize fights are tied on with laces. Just like lacing up your shoes, laces provide a nice snug fit. It takes two people to get lace up gloves on.

The advantage to buying a pair of boxing gloves with Velcro straps is that you can easily put on the gloves, and remove them yourself. If you have ever tried to lace a pair of gloves when nobody is around, it is almost impossible. For your average person and general training purposes, gloves with Velcro straps are very acceptable.

Buying a decent pair of boxing / sparring gloves isn’t too difficult. It just takes a little more thought that simply making a run to your favorite sporting goods store and picking up a pair that is on sale. Determine which type will suit you best. Now show me some combos!
